Katarzyna Machalek & Lukasz Machowski

Directors

Katarzyna Machalek is a Polish director, screenwriter, and illustrator. 

She graduated in Fine Arts at the Krakow University. In 2019, she had a solo exhibition at Okuno Building in Tokyo and worked with Ian Emes, the Pink Floyd animator.

Lukasz Machowski is a Polish director, screenwriter, and dop. He holds MA in Film Studies from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Sketches from the Underground (2015) won him numerous film awards and made its US premiere at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.

Katarzyna and Lukasz, as a directorial duo, live and work between London and Warsaw.

Their debut feature Day and Night (2022) was screened at the Polish Days of New Horizons International Film Festival in Wroclaw and premiered in the Feature Film Competition of RIGA IFF / Riga International Film Festival. 

Their upcoming feature documentary Boys depicts a year in the life of a group of teenagers locked in a juvenile detention center and is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. 

Using a variety of documentary and narrative forms, Katarzyna and Lukasz explore themes close to their hearts such as human nature, spirituality and how modern culture influences and changes both.
